The Maths Department incorporates innovative approaches to teaching Mathematics that are designed to develop independent learning by means of guided discovery and group work. Pupils are encouraged to cooperate with each other and to take on new challenges by using the latest Mathematical software and by reflecting on how to continually enhance their Mathematical skills base.
All pupils are aware of the self assessment offered by using the Maths A.P.P tracking system that allows them to monitor their progress through the mathematical level descriptors.
The Maths Department use the dynamic geometry software packages Autograph and Sketchpad to help develop the each pupils visual and Mathematical ability and online homework practice is provided by Sam Learning and Edlounge.
KS4 pupils can use the online Edexcel Results Plus booster service to practice and improve their G.C.S.E performance and this includes skills map reports, to help plan remediation and revision, with grade-tracking features that give each pupil a visible guide to progress.
Pupils are encouraged to plan for an early GCSE entry at Foundation level and if they are successful they can continue their study at the Higher Level with the option of also following the Additional Maths syllabus which can lead to U.C.A.S accreditation.
