In conjunction with our pupils studying Charles Dicken’s novel ‘A Christmas Carol’ which highlighted the many challenging social issues faced by the poor in the lifetime of the author. The school was able to visit the Ragged School Museum which showed how children who could not afford education were able to gain a free basic education.
The pupils were told about the origins of the Ragged school and were able to gain a simulated experience of how pupils were thought in the days of Charles Dicken’s.
The pupils showed genuine shock at the differences to how they are taught now with them left thinking and engaged. This was our ultimate aim in taking them there. A pleasant trip that we hope they can benefit from moving forward.
